Livingston police detained a 45-year-old local woman at the ShopRite on South Livingston Avenue on Aug. 12 after store employees caught her allegedly trying to leave with more than $300 in unpaid merchandise, according to the West Essex Tribune.

Officers responded to a reported shoplifting at the grocery store, located at 483 South Livingston Ave., at approximately 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12. When they arrived, store management had already detained the woman.

The police report alleges she selected numerous items throughout the store and attempted to exit without paying. The total value of the merchandise exceeded $300.

The Livingston Police Department has not specified what formal charge, if any, was filed in connection with the incident. No municipal court date has been announced.

The case is one of several recent retail theft incidents to reach Livingston authorities. On Thursday, Aug. 13, Livingston Municipal Court heard shoplifting cases involving a 65-year-old Morristown woman accused of stealing from Bottle King and a 32-year-old Newark man charged with shoplifting from DSW. Those cases involved different suspects at different stores and are unrelated to the ShopRite incident.
