Cana Mediterranean Kitchen and Coffee Roastery has opened at 41 Main Street in downtown Millburn, replacing the longtime Coffee Mill Roasters at the same address. Owner Adel Aziz rebranded the shop in August, pairing a full Mediterranean food menu with the location's original coffee program.

The restaurant's website describes Cana as a Mediterranean kitchen and in-house coffee roastery offering shawarma, mezze, breakfast items and small-batch coffee roasted daily. The menu adds falafel, shawarma bowls and pitas to the pastries and specialty drinks the address has served for more than a decade.

Coffee Mill Roasters had occupied 41 Main Street since April 2013, when Gennaro Raimo and his son Daniel Raimo opened the cafe, The Miller reported. The original menu featured Brazilian, Guatemalan and Ethiopian foods alongside classic coffee shop fare. Aziz acquired the business from the Raimos after several years, though the exact date of that sale is not public.

The storefront got a visual overhaul with the rebrand. Bright white walls now frame the exterior. Bowls and wraps are priced below $18, and lattes run under $8, according to The Miller.

One anonymous Millburn High School student, quoted in The Miller, offered a firsthand take: "I got the Beef Shawarma Pita, and it was delicious without the grease and sodium."

The Explore Millburn-Short Hills Facebook page announced the launch, noting that Aziz is the same owner who ran Coffee Mill Roasters. That post drew roughly 2,000 views and 27 reactions. The page listed Cana's hours as Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The shop is closed Mondays.

Cana was in a soft-opening phase as of the Facebook post and was actively hiring staff. Residents can call (973) 400-1090 for information or to inquire about open positions.
