The Livingston Planning Board will formally lock in its approval of a perimeter fence at Spectrum360's new Route 10 school when it meets for a special session Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

The board approved the 6-foot fence amendment at its July 21 meeting after a hearing that began June 16. Tuesday's vote memorializes that decision, making it the final board action on a site plan application that has been in the pipeline since 2022.

Spectrum360, a nonprofit special-education provider led by CEO Ken Berger, is preparing to open its lower school for children ages 3 to about 13 with autism and related disabilities at 630 West Mt. Pleasant Ave. in September. The organization relocated the program from Verona to the 7.15-acre property at the Route 10/Okner Parkway intersection, where it renovated an existing building and added a 7,500-square-foot gymnasium.

The school was approved for up to 225 students and 190 employees, with 228 parking spaces including electric-vehicle charging stations. Students arrive by Spectrum360-operated vans and mini-buses through a five-lane driveway off Okner Parkway.

Attorney John Inglesino represented Spectrum360 before the board on the fencing amendment, returning July 21 with revised plans after the June 16 continuance, according to West Essex Tribune reporting on the hearing.

The same Aug. 18 agenda lists a hearing on parking lot improvements at Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy, 110 South Orange Ave., but that application has been adjourned to Sept. 1.

The academy, a Modern Orthodox yeshiva serving nursery through high school, is seeking approval for pavement restriping, circulation changes, perimeter fencing, a guard booth and access gates at its campus, according to the township agenda. No cost or scope details beyond those categories appear in public filings.

Residents who want to comment on the Kushner Academy plan will have their chance at the Sept. 1 special meeting.

The board will also memorialize its July 21 approval of a minor subdivision at 56 Burnet St., where 56 Burnet LLC won permission to split an oversized lot into two parcels in the R-4 zone.

The meeting is at Livingston Town Hall, 357 South Livingston Ave. The Planning Department can be reached at 973-992-5000, ext. 5511, or [email protected].
