An 18-year-old Bloomingdale man and a 21-year-old Connecticut man each pleaded guilty and paid fines in Livingston Municipal Court after separate incidents at the Livingston Mall property and in a residential neighborhood near Woodland Terrace, according to court records published Wednesday, July 16, by the West Essex Tribune.
Mall trespassing
Abdiel Alvarado, 18, of Bloomingdale, was charged with trespassing after entering the Livingston Mall on Wednesday, June 17, despite no-trespassing signs posted around the property. Alvarado pleaded guilty to an amended charge of disorderly conduct and was fined $200 plus $33 in court costs.
The township has warned of increased enforcement at the shuttered mall. The official Livingston NJ government account posted on Wednesday, June 24, that there would be "zero tolerance" for anyone entering the property with criminal intent, adding that violators could face prosecution and a permanent arrest record. Livingston Police Department Captain Joseph D'Andrea addressed the uptick in young trespassers in an ABC7 Eyewitness News interview around the same time, with police attributing the trend to social media.
Unlicensed soliciting
In a separate case, Tyler Lombardo, 21, of Southington, Connecticut, was charged with soliciting after going door to door without a permit on Wednesday, June 3, causing alarm to residents in the neighborhood around 9 Woodland Terrace. Lombardo pleaded guilty to the soliciting charge and was fined $100 plus $33 in court costs.
Under Livingston Township ordinance, all door-to-door solicitors must carry a township-issued Official Solicitation Permit while canvassing.
