Drivers heading through Short Hills and Millburn on Friday, July 17, 2026, should plan alternate routes: four streets are closed to through traffic for construction work.
The biggest impact for Short Hills commuters is the closure of Old Short Hills Road at South Orange Avenue, a heavily used intersection connecting Short Hills to South Orange and downtown Millburn. That closure runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Three other locations are also shut down:
- Jefferson Avenue at Adams Avenue — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- 249 Millburn Avenue — 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- 8 Woodland Road — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Millburn Township posted the closure notice on Thursday, July 16, on its CivicAlerts page. The township did not specify what type of construction is taking place at any of the four sites or identify the contractors involved.
Two of the locations, Jefferson Avenue at Adams Avenue and 249 Millburn Avenue, were also closed on Thursday, July 16, indicating ongoing work at those sites. The township has been posting daily road closure alerts throughout July as summer construction season continues across the community.
The township advises that when no specific time is listed for a closure, work can generally be expected between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Residents who encounter hazardous road conditions or need to report a traffic concern can contact the Millburn Police Department's non-emergency line, listed on the township website at twp.millburn.nj.us.
