Millburn Avenue parking and several road closures take effect early Sunday, Oct. 4, as the annual Tour de Millburn bike ride rolls through town after a two-week rain delay.

The Township of Millburn announced the restrictions on X on Thursday, Oct. 1. Parking will be banned on Millburn Avenue between Spring Street and Main Street from 6 to 9:30 a.m. Whittingham Terrace between Millburn Avenue and Ridgewood Road will be fully closed from 6 a.m. to noon. Roads in the South Mountain section are subject to temporary closures throughout the morning.

Residents who live or park along those stretches should plan to move vehicles before 6 a.m.

The ride was originally set for Sunday, Sept. 20, but the township postponed it because of projected rain, according to Patch. The township announced on X on Sept. 28 that registration had reopened for anyone who still wants to take part.

Three routes, three start times

All rides launch from 375 Millburn Ave., in front of Town Hall. Advanced cyclists 16 and older tackle the 15-mile course at 8 a.m., according to Patch. Experienced riders 10 and older follow with the seven-mile route at 8:30 a.m. Families with children and inexperienced cyclists begin the two-mile loop at 9 a.m.

The event is a community ride, not a race. Cyclists set their own pace.

How to register

Registration costs $20 per rider through CommunityPass. Online sign-ups closed Sept. 30, but the township's Tour de Millburn page says walk-up registration will be available the morning of Oct. 4. Riders who register on-site should show their receipt at the check-in table.

CycleBar and Pure Barre will lead stretches 10 minutes before each ride. Millburn Indoor Golf Club will run a raffle at the finish line.

Volunteers still needed

The township is looking for volunteers to help with setup the day before or on the morning of the event. Interested residents can sign up through the township's volunteer page.

Route maps are available on the township's Tour de Millburn page through Komoot, Google Maps and GPX download. Residents can check the township's recreation information page for the latest event status.
