Millburn students in fifth through eighth grade swapped the pool for push-ups Monday, Aug. 17, as the Millburn Police Department's Junior Police Academy returned for another year.
The Millburn Fire Department and the Millburn Short Hills First Aid Squad also visited on opening day to run hands-on demonstrations and presentations for participants.
Three photos posted by the township showed young participants in formation alongside uniformed officers.
Spots were limited.
Police Chief Brian Gilfedder's department runs the academy, which offers young residents a hands-on look at police work through physical training, demonstrations and interactive exercises. The department described the 2026 session as "the return of our Junior Police Academy," confirming it is a recurring program, according to the township's registration page.
Registration opened March 17 on a first-come, first-served basis for Millburn residents entering fifth through eighth grade. The department's headquarters is at 435 Essex St. in Millburn.
The township has not announced how many students enrolled, where within Millburn the academy meets, or when the program wraps up. No closing ceremony date has been posted.
Residents interested in future Millburn Police youth programs can check the township website or follow the department's social media accounts for updates.
