A free group bike ride returns to Livingston on Sunday, Sept. 27, when the annual Bike Livingston event rolls out from the area between Town Hall and the West Essex YMCA.
The Township of Livingston and the West Essex YMCA are co-hosting the ride from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., the township announced on X on Aug. 31. The starting area sits between Livingston Town Hall and the YMCA's location at 321 S. Livingston Ave.
The ride is open to experienced cyclists and families with children.
Bike Livingston kicks off the township's annual Youth Appreciation Week, according to the Livingston Township calendar. Last year's edition offered three route options of 4, 7 and 11 miles, according to a West Essex YMCA social media post at the time. Organizers have not announced whether the same distances will be available this year.
The West Essex YMCA, a branch of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, is in the middle of building a new 56,000-square-foot facility in Livingston. The new building is scheduled to open in December, TAPinto Livingston reported.
Residents can register for Bike Livingston through a form the township linked on its X account.
A busy weekend ahead
The ride caps a full weekend of free community programming tied to Youth Appreciation Week. The day before, the Livingston Police Department will host its Third Annual Community Block Party at the Oval, the West Essex Tribune reported. That event combines the police block party with Youth Appreciation Week's Family Fun Festival and the Livingston Fire Department's Annual Open House.
