Livingston Township will hold its annual 9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance on Friday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. at the 9/11 Living Memorial Garden on the Livingston Memorial Oval, marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The ceremony will proceed rain or shine. All residents are invited.
The township announced the event on its official website, confirming the date, time and location. The West Essex Tribune first reported the details on Monday, Aug. 24.
The Living Memorial Garden is an octagonal-shaped space with seven of its eight sides dedicated to the seven Livingston residents who died at the World Trade Center, according to the Voices Center for Resilience. Each panel honors one resident by name. The garden sits on the Memorial Oval, the same green space that hosts the township's summer concert series and movie nights.
Livingston has held the ceremony annually at the same site. The township held its 2025 edition on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at the same location, drawing residents each year to pause and remember the seven neighbors lost that day.
The Livingston ceremony is separate from Millburn Township's remembrance. Millburn Township announced on X that its ceremony will take place the same day at 3 p.m. at the Taylor Park Memorial, with the entrance near Main Street. Residents who wish to attend both have a one-hour window between the two events.
No registration is required for either ceremony.
