The Livingston Planning Board approved a federally funded security fence and other upgrades at Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy, a private school at 110 South Orange Ave.

The board granted preliminary and final site plan approval at its Tuesday, Sept. 1, meeting, the West Essex Tribune reported. The project includes a commercial-grade perimeter fence, a guard booth, access gates, parking lot re-striping and circulation improvements, according to the board's meeting agenda.

Peter Wolfson, the attorney representing the school, told the board that the academy had recently received federal grant funding for campus security. He said "part of the grant is specifically for a commercial grade security fence that must be at least six feet tall."

Wolfson did not name the specific federal program funding the work.
