Essex County is shutting down one direction of North and South Livingston Avenue for five nights of milling and paving, starting Friday, Oct. 30.

Each closure runs from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and is weather dependent, according to a tentative schedule posted by Livingston Township.

Here is the night-by-night breakdown:

  • Monday, Nov. 2: North Livingston Avenue, southbound only, between Route 280 and Crest View Hill Road.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3: North Livingston Avenue, southbound only, between Crest View Hill Road and Route 10.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 4: South Livingston Avenue, southbound only, between Route 10 and Belmont Drive.
  • Thursday, Nov. 5: South Livingston Avenue, southbound only, between Belmont Drive and Wardell Road.

Only one direction of travel is closed each night.

The paving is part of a broader Essex County effort on Livingston Avenue that has been underway for weeks. Earlier northbound-only closures hit South Livingston Avenue between East Northfield Road and Belmont Avenue on Oct. 23, and between Belmont Avenue and East Mount Pleasant Avenue on Oct. 28, according to separate township alerts. North Livingston Avenue, northbound only between East Mount Pleasant Avenue and East McClellan Avenue, was closed Oct. 29.

Livingston NJ, the township's official account on X, shared the schedule on Oct. 30, noting the work would continue "over the next couple of weeks." The full schedule is weather dependent, and the township has posted individual alerts ahead of each closure night.
