Downtown Millburn turns into a trick-or-treat trail Friday afternoon when Explore Millburn Short Hills hosts its annual Halloween Stroll.

The free, family-friendly event runs from 2:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. Local businesses throughout downtown will hand out candy and welcome costumed trick-or-treaters into their stores, according to the event's listing on Mommy Poppins.

The stroll falls one day before Halloween, giving families a head start on the holiday.

What to expect

Explore Millburn Short Hills, the organization behind the event, has lined up activities beyond the candy haul. According to NJ Family, the afternoon includes a costume contest, face painting, pumpkin painting, games, giveaways and a DJ.

The event is open to all ages. No admission fee or ticket is required.

NJ.com listed the stroll among its top weekend picks across Essex County. Explore Millburn Short Hills, based at 375 Millburn Ave., organizes the event each year.
