Pung Intended, a new studio dedicated to American Mah Jongg, opened at 355 Eisenhower Parkway in Livingston with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 5.
Owner Cindy Goldstein launched the studio in Suite 101 of the Eisenhower Parkway commercial building, according to a New Jersey Hills photo caption published Oct. 27. The studio offers lessons, open play, guided play, leagues and a place for players to meet others around the table. Livingston Deputy Mayor Ketan Bhuptani and Councilmen Al Anthony and Ed Meinhardt attended the ceremony.
The studio also hosts private events, according to RE-NJ. Visitors can come alone, with a friend or a group, according to the studio's website. Pre-registration is required; session details are at thepung.com.
The Goldstein Group, a commercial real estate brokerage, arranged the lease on behalf of Pung Intended, RE-NJ reported. The firm's principal, Neil Goldstein, described the studio as a concept combining recreation, social activity and community. He also appeared at the ribbon-cutting alongside Ryan Goldstein.
Pung Intended joins a building that already houses Sports Universe, Integrated Martial Arts & Fitness, Groves Unlimited Dance Studio, V Fencing Club, Kornerstone Kids and SAM Singapore Math center, according to RE-NJ.
The game is booming nationally. A report from USA Mahjong, a mahjong retailer and community site, said searches for mah jongg clubs rose more than 4,400% in the 12 months ending August 2025. Dedicated studios have signed leases in Dallas, Cleveland, New York City and Park City, Utah, over the past 18 months, the report said.
