Livingston's boys cross country team sits at 5-1 in the Super Essex Conference American Division after winning three of four dual meets at Branch Brook Park in Newark.

The Lancers beat Newark Academy, Nutley and West Essex during the second round of SEC competition, the West Essex Tribune reported Thursday, Sept. 24.

The lone loss came against Columbia.

The dual-meet wins followed a strong opening to the season. Livingston finished second at the Lancer Invitational on Sept. 4 at Littell's Pond, where senior co-captains Lucas Liu and Sean Tesoriero set the pace. Liu ran 17:53 to finish sixth overall, and Tesoriero clocked 18:10 for ninth. Sophomore Aman Harshvardhan emerged as an early-season surprise, running 18:23 for 16th place. The varsity's top five averaged 18:31 with a tight 1:11 spread between the first and fifth scorers.

At the Holmdel Invitational, the Lancers posted one of their best team performances in years, according to the West Essex Tribune. The NJ.com honor roll for the week of Wednesday, Sept. 23, backed that up: Livingston posted a 14:21 team average in the 2-mile A Race, ranking eighth statewide.

Two Lancers earned individual spots on NJ.com's statewide honor roll. Sophomore Akshaj Arya ran 14:04.70 to place 10th among all New Jersey sophomores in the 2-mile. Senior Aguila clocked 14:42.00, finishing eighth on the senior list.

The SEC dual-meet schedule runs through Branch Brook Park for the first three weeks before shifting to Cedar Grove Park for the final dual meet and the conference and county championship races.
