Five defendants faced a Livingston Municipal Court judge the week of Wednesday, July 22, 2026, with three pleading guilty to entering the shuttered Livingston Mall and two admitting to shoplifting from Nordstrom Rack.
All three mall trespassers had their original charges reduced. Municipal Prosecutor Michael Berliner amended each from trespassing or entering without permission to the lesser offense of creating a disturbance on private property.
Myles Feliciano, 23, of Dover, entered the mall on June 14 through an unsecured door, according to court officials. He pleaded guilty and was fined $200 plus $33 in court costs. His co-defendant, Mateo Herrera, 23, also of Dover, entered the same day and received the same penalty.
Christopher Labour Rodriguez, 19, of Newark, was charged with criminal trespassing for entering the mall on June 17. He also pleaded guilty to the amended charge and was fined $200 plus $33 in court costs.
The cases come amid a string of unauthorized entries at the property on Eisenhower Parkway. On June 24, the Livingston Police Department posted a zero-tolerance warning on X, stating that anyone found on the property with criminal intent would be "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." Capt. Joseph D'Andrea told ABC7 Eyewitness News that social media trends had fueled the increase in trespassing at the closed mall.
Two juveniles wearing ski masks were also arrested at the former Sears store on July 7 after police responded to a burglar alarm at 2:15 a.m., according to a separate Livingston police report.
Nordstrom Rack shoplifting
Angela Savino, 63, of East Hanover, pleaded guilty to shoplifting $493.55 worth of merchandise from Nordstrom Rack on May 2. The store's loss prevention team apprehended her. Savino entered a one-year conditional dismissal program that will clear the charge from her record if she does not reoffend. She was ordered to pay $33 in court costs, $75 for the Safe Neighborhoods Fund, $50 for the Victims of Crime Compensation Board, a $500 conditional dismissal assessment fee, and a $75 conditional dismissal fee.
Tymirah Quarles, 27, of Plainfield, was charged with stealing a pair of Ugg boots valued at $149.97 from Nordstrom Rack on December 5, 2025. She concealed the boots under a baby carriage inside her shopping cart, according to court records. Quarles appeared by video conference because she was incarcerated on an unrelated matter.
She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in jail with 60 days credit for time served. The court also imposed a $1,000 fine, $33 in court costs, $75 for the Safe Neighborhoods Fund, and $50 for the Victims of Crime Compensation Board. All fines were converted to jail time served.
Livingston Mall, which opened in 1972, is now largely vacant after Macy's closed its location there in early 2026. The township designated the 112 Eisenhower Parkway property as an Area in Need of Redevelopment in October 2024, and 15.8 acres on the former Sears site have been approved for 376 housing units.
