Livingston families with special-needs children can drop into a free weekly sports program starting Wednesday, Oct. 14, with no sign-up required.
The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) and the Recreation & Senior Services Department are partnering on the after-school program, which will run every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Monmouth Court Community Center, 26 Monmouth Court, according to a township announcement. Sessions continue through Wednesday, May 12, 2027.
Children will rotate through wiffle ball, kickball, soccer, floor hockey, bowling and volleyball played with a beach ball. Siblings and parents are welcome to join in.
The walk-in format sets this program apart from Livingston Recreation's separate Shining Stars adaptive sports offerings, which require pre-registration through Community Pass or in person at the Senior/Community Center on Hillside Avenue. Shining Stars runs its own fall lineup of soccer, arts and crafts, social skills classes and Door Step Dance.
The new LACD sports program, by contrast, requires nothing but showing up.
