Children with special needs in Livingston can drop into a free after-school sports program starting Wednesday, Oct. 14.
The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) and the Recreation and Senior Services Department will run the program every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Monmouth Court Community Center, 26 Monmouth Court. It continues through May 12, 2027, according to the township's event calendar.
No registration is required. Families can show up any week.
The lineup rotates through wiffle ball, kickball, soccer, floor hockey, bowling and volleyball played with a beach ball. Siblings and parents of children with special needs are welcome to join in.
The township announced the program on Sept. 15, and the first session is one week away.
The program will skip six Wednesdays over the seven-month run: Nov. 25 and Dec. 23 and 30, 2026, and Feb. 17, March 10 and April 21, 2027.
Bob Gebroe, who is listed as the program's contact and as LACD chairperson on the committee's township page, can answer schedule questions and weather cancellations. He can be reached at 973-970-4441 or [email protected].
The sports series is one of several free LACD offerings this season. A free arts and crafts program for children and adults with special needs is also meeting at the same community center, with its next session on Monday, Dec. 7, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Adult and student volunteers supervise each session.
