Every book in the Friends Book Store at the Livingston Public Library is half price this week.
The Friends of the Livingston Library launched its annual Beat the Heat Book Blast on Thursday, July 30, with the sale running through Wednesday, Aug. 5, according to the West Essex Tribune. The entire inventory at the Book Store, located inside the library at 10 Robert Harp Dr., is marked down 50 percent.
Every category is included.
In the Friends' Fall 2024 newsletter, President Doreen Mollenhauer wrote that the summer 2024 Book Blast was the organization's most successful ever, generating about 3.5 times the typical daily average at the Book Store. Teachers told the group the sale helped them prepare for the new school year, giving the event a back-to-school angle that extends beyond summer reading.
The Book Store operates on an honor system with a cash box. Patrons can also pay with Venmo.
Volunteers Anita Mintz and Fabio Picinic are among the Friends members who keep the shelves stocked year-round. The nonprofit, founded in March 1960, funds the library's Summer Reading Programs, music concerts, author events, and the Museum Pass Program.
The sale overlaps with the library's Summer Challenge 2026, themed "Unearth a Story," which runs through Monday, Aug. 10, according to the library's event calendar. Families already logging books for the challenge can browse the half-price shelves during the same visit.
Other library events during the sale period include a Take Home Craft: SLC Dog Puppet available Monday, Aug. 3, through Wednesday, Aug. 5, and an Adult Vinyasa Yoga class at 11 a.m. on Aug. 5.
Hours during the sale:
- Monday–Thursday: 10 a.m.–9 p.m.
- Friday: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Sunday: 1–5 p.m.
