Livingston residents can grab a brush and paint a miniature masterpiece at the library's Tiny Art Show on Sunday, August 16, then watch their neighbors vote on favorites over the following two weeks.
The event, now in at least its third year, starts at 2 p.m. at the Livingston Public Library, 10 Robert H. Harp Drive. Participants will paint on four-inch-square canvases during a one-hour session, and the library provides all materials.
The program is open to Livingston residents ages 18 and older. Registration opened Monday, August 3, at 10 a.m. through the library's event calendar.
Once the brushes dry, completed paintings go on display in the library's common area from Tuesday, August 18, at 10 a.m. through Friday, August 28, at 6 p.m. Anyone visiting the library during that stretch can cast a vote for their favorite piece.
Three winners will be announced at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 31, according to the West Essex Tribune.
The Friends of the Livingston Public Library, the nonprofit support group that funds programming at the branch, sponsors the event. The library described the show as returning by popular demand in its calendar listing. The first edition ran in 2023, according to library records, and a second followed in July 2025. In a message announcing that year's edition, the library director described it as a chance for adults to paint a miniature masterpiece on a 4x4 canvas with all supplies provided.
Ragini Lall, the library's head of adult services and acquisitions, oversees adult programming at the branch. Residents with questions can reach the library at (973) 992-4600. The library is open Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
