Livingston residents can get a free blood pressure check on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Senior/Community Center.
The Livingston Health Department will run the screening from 10 a.m. to noon on the first floor of the center at 204 Hillside Ave. Walk-ins are welcome. Residents can also schedule an appointment by calling the Nursing/Health Education Division at 973-535-7961, ext. 7109, 7108 or 7110.
The Sept. 29 session is part of a recurring program. The Health Department held similar free screenings at the same location on July 29 and Aug. 19, according to the township's online calendar.
The township's calendar posting notes that high blood pressure can raise the risk of heart disease or stroke, and that many people who have it don't know it. Michael Izzo, Livingston's public information officer, called the condition "the silent killer" in an Aug. 13 West Essex Tribune article previewing the August screening.
No future screening dates beyond Sept. 29 have been announced. To schedule an appointment, call 973-535-7961, ext. 7109, 7108 or 7110.
