Livingston residents who want a behind-the-scenes look at how their police department operates have a narrowing window to sign up for a free, 10-week course starting Thursday, September 10.
The Livingston Police Department is accepting applications for its seventh Citizens Police Academy, which runs Thursday evenings through November 12 at the Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave., according to TAPinto Livingston. Classes meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The department said the program aims to strengthen police-community rapport through education, increase public understanding of police practices and procedures, and dispel misconceptions about law enforcement. The LPD also said the academy helps its officers become more aware of residents' concerns and questions.

Who can apply
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and must live or work in the Township of Livingston. The program is free.
No specific application deadline has been announced, but the department described this as a final call for registrations in a July 26 notice.

Applications are available online through the township's police forms page or in person at LPD headquarters, 333 S. Livingston Ave.

The first class meets Thursday, September 10 at 6 p.m. at the Senior/Community Center. The final session is scheduled for Thursday, November 12. The department has not released a detailed curriculum or said how many spots remain.
