Livingston residents near North Ashby Avenue should expect police activity on Wednesday, July 22, as the Livingston Police Department runs training exercises in the area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There is no emergency.

The township posted the notice on its official website Monday, July 20, describing the exercises as routine. The department did not identify what type of training is involved, using only the phrase "standard training exercises" in its announcement.

Fifth drill in the corridor since June

The July 22 session is at least the fifth time the department has trained in the North Ashby Avenue and Garnet Terrace corridor this summer. The township announced drills on Thursday, June 18 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), Friday, June 26, through Saturday, June 27 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.), and Tuesday, July 14 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), all in the same general area, according to posts on the township's verified government X account, @livingston_nj.

Each announcement used identical language, telling residents the exercises are standard and that there is no cause for alarm.

The July 22 window is six hours. Earlier summer sessions ran as long as eight hours.

What's different this time

The July 14 drill covered both Garnet Terrace and North Ashby Avenue. The July 22 notice mentions only North Ashby Avenue, though the township did not explain whether the training footprint has shifted.

No spokesperson has been identified in any of the announcements, and the township has not disclosed the training objectives or how many officers are involved.

No additional training dates have been announced beyond July 22.
