Livingston's final curbside metal recycling pickup of 2026 is Friday, Oct. 30. Residents who want to get rid of old grills, washers, dryers or other scrap metal before winter have one last chance in 2026 to haul it to the curb.

Registration closes at noon Thursday, Oct. 29, at livingstonnj.org/MetalRequest. After that, the program pauses until Friday, Jan. 22, 2027, the West Essex Tribune reported. Registration for the first 2027 pickup opens Tuesday, Jan. 19, and the township will not accept signups before that date.

What the township picks up

The program accepts air conditioners, metal dehumidifiers, basketball hoops, emptied helium tanks, stoves, microwaves, grills, treadmills, exercise bikes, metal file cabinets, patio furniture, washers, dryers and refrigerators, according to the township's recycling page. Refrigerator doors must be removed before the unit goes to the curb.

Items must be placed at the curb the night before pickup. Township staff will not retrieve anything from inside a house, garage or yard.

TVs and screens don't count

The township's recycling page warns that televisions and screens are electronics, not metal. They will not be picked up with metal items.

Residents who need to dispose of a TV or other electronics can bring them to the next Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Livingston Senior/Community Center rear parking lot, 204 Hillside Ave. The event runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to Livingston residents only, according to the township's electronics recycling page.
