Rained out on the Fourth? Livingston made it up to you Wednesday night — and the fireworks were worth the wait.

Four days after thunderstorms forced Livingston to postpone its Fourth of July fireworks, the township's 89th annual display finally lit up the sky over Memorial Oval on Wednesday night.

Officials called it "a spectacular conclusion" to a holiday celebration that also marked America's semiquincentennial, thanking residents who packed the Oval on a midweek evening.

Saturday's original celebration got cut short at 6:30 p.m. when storm threats forced officials to cancel the New Power Soul concert and push fireworks to Wednesday. The township framed it as a two-part event: "Part One" covered Saturday's daytime activities, and "Part Two" delivered Wednesday's fireworks finale.

Part One still delivered a full day of fun — the 33rd Annual Auto Fest, 22 food trucks and vendors, a 250-foot zip line, pony rides, inflatables, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The township called it "a huge success."

For Wednesday's encore, gates opened at 6:30 p.m. with food trucks on site. Yacht rock band Suit & Mai Tai played at 7:30 p.m., and fireworks launched at 9:15 p.m. The Oval closed to traffic starting at 3 p.m. to prepare.

Livingston's free "Summer Nights at the Oval" concert series continues Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the Gazebo in Memorial Park — no registration needed:

  • July 15 — The Cliffs
  • July 22 — Action Park
  • July 29 — The Wag

A poolside concert with Mike Brodsky is set for Saturday, July 11, at Mervyn V.T. Haines Community Pool, 10 Wahler Road.
