Livingston residents 62 and older can grab free ice cream and live music at what the township bills as its annual Ice Cream Social on Sept. 10.
The event runs from noon to 2 p.m. at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.
Vocalist Dan Yates will provide the entertainment. Yates is a professional performing artist whose shows cover Broadway hits, standards, operetta and traditional favorites, according to a Livingston Township announcement. Audiences get chances to sing along, and Yates weaves in stories about the songwriters and performers who made the music famous.
Yates has appeared as an actor and singer in New York City, Atlantic City and theaters across the country. His stage credits include Curly in Oklahoma, Billy in Carousel, Raul in Phantom of the Opera and Sid in The Pajama Game. He has previously performed at the Livingston Public Library's Senior Happening series, where he covered the musical styles of Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli.
The township described the social as "the perfect way to keep the summer going."
How to register
Residents can sign up online through Community Pass or in person at the Senior/Community Center. Walk-in registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
