Livingston residents have until Monday, Nov. 30, to apply for seats on 23 township advisory boards and committees before the council reviews applications in early December.

Mayor Shawn Klein is encouraging newcomers and residents who haven't previously volunteered to get involved. The township posted the call for applicants on Sept. 24, according to a township news alert.

Klein said in a township news release published by Patch that the township values its existing volunteers and wants fresh faces. "I invite everyone to learn more about our committees and consider volunteering," Klein said. "We have such a big volunteer community here, and it is exciting to see new people join and contribute to making Livingston so special."

The council makes appointments each year at its January reorganization meeting. The 23 boards cover environmental policy, public events, technology, senior services and land use.

Some seats fill automatically. Others on bodies like the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Livingston Environmental Commission (LEC), Open Space Committee, Local Assistance Board, Library Board of Trustees, Livingston For All Ages and Livingston For All (Inclusive Healthy Communities) open only when vacancies exist.

Residents drawn to environmental work can apply for the Green Team Committee, Recycling & Reclamation Committee or Trails & Greenways Committee. Those interested in youth and senior services can seek spots on the Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD), Senior Advisory Committee or Vision 20/20 Committee.

Residents with information technology experience can apply for the Livingston Public Broadcasting Committee (LTV) or Technology Committee. Boards focused on events and celebrations include the Fourth of July Celebration Committee, Memorial Day Parade Committee, Golf Tournament Committee and Camuso Collection Preservation Committee.

Other openings cover the Animal Shelter Committee, Arts Council of Livingston, Consumer Affairs Committee, Livingston Committee for Diversity & Inclusion (LCDI), Transportation Committee, Welcome to Livingston Committee and the Ad-Hoc Licari & Strahman Tracts Committee.

Each committee's responsibilities are described on the township's volunteer page alongside the application form. Completed applications must be emailed to [email protected] by the Nov. 30 deadline. The form and committee descriptions are available at livingstonnj.org/Committees. Residents with questions can call the Clerk's Department at 973-992-5000, Option 1.
