Livingston-area supporters of Cycle for Survival shared photos in branded T-shirts over Labor Day weekend to boost awareness for the rare cancer fundraiser.
The campaign, reported by the West Essex Tribune on Tuesday, Sept. 8, featured local names including Sandy Goodman and Len Goodman, parents of the late co-founder Jennifer Goodman Linn. Dave Linn, Jennifer's husband and fellow co-founder, also participated. Other area supporters pictured included Lauren Harris-Pincus, Antonio Sapienza, Debbie Shelkowitz, Fang Gong, Rita Masini and Nora Lichtenstein.
Harris-Pincus, a registered dietitian who grew up in Livingston, has captained a Cycle for Survival team for at least seven years, according to her LinkedIn profile. Sapienza is the clinic director at Excel Physical Therapy on South Livingston Avenue.
Cycle for Survival is the official rare cancer fundraiser of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Jennifer Goodman Linn founded the organization in 2007 alongside Dave Linn after she was diagnosed with MFH sarcoma, a rare cancer. The first indoor cycling event at an Equinox gym in New York City raised $250,000.
Jennifer Goodman Linn died in 2011 at age 40. MSK later named a lab in her honor: The Jennifer Goodman Linn Laboratory of New Drug Development in Sarcoma and Rare Cancers.
Since then, the movement has grown into a $450 million effort, according to the organization's website. The 2026 season alone raised $38 million for rare cancer research at MSK, and funding from the program has contributed to at least six FDA-approved therapies, according to a December 2025 press release. The organization says every dollar raised goes directly to rare cancer research.
Rare cancers affect roughly half of all cancer patients. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines a rare cancer as one affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the United States.
"When I began training as an oncologist 23 years ago, there were few treatments for rare cancers … Thanks to Cycle for Survival, we've been able to invest in high-risk, high-reward research that has changed the story," Ross Levine, MSK's chief scientific officer, said in a Dec. 16, 2025, press release.
The 2026 season featured indoor cycling events at 16 Equinox locations nationwide, including Summit and Paramus. Registration for the 2027 season opens this month at cycleforsurvival.org.
