Livingston's annual Trunk or Treat celebration returns Friday, Oct. 30, with a free afternoon of trick-or-treating, a costume contest and food trucks at the Eastman Building parking lot.

The Livingston Recreation Department announced the event in a civic alert posted Sept. 28. Kids can trick-or-treat from car to car in the lot at 290 W. Mount Pleasant Ave. from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all families.

The department called the event a town tradition.

A Halloween costume contest will award prizes to winners, and a themed family photo booth will be set up for the afternoon. Food trucks will serve on site, though the department has not announced specific vendors.

Local businesses and organizations that want to decorate a vehicle and hand out candy can enter the Decorated Vehicle Contest. A prize goes to the best-decorated trunk. All participating vehicles must bring their own pre-packaged treats, and the department said participants should expect a large turnout. Promotional giveaways are also welcome.

Vehicle registration requires pre-signup by Friday, Oct. 23. That is the firm deadline for both the Decorated Vehicle Contest and any business or organization looking to set up a trunk.

To register, contact Joe Gill, program supervisor for the Livingston Recreation Department, at [email protected]. Gill is the point of contact for all vehicle participants. The recreation department can also be reached at (973) 535-7925 or [email protected].
