A Millburn police officer arrested an Uber driver who allegedly threatened a passenger with a baseball bat near the Millburn Train Station on Sept. 2.

The officer was traveling through the area on Essex Street when he saw a man waving a bat and screaming at another man, the Millburn Police Department said. The officer intervened and separated the two.

Police determined the dispute started over an Uber pickup location. The passenger canceled the ride, and the driver then threatened the passenger with the bat, according to the department. The driver was charged with terroristic threats and unlawful weapon possession, Patch reported.

Two days later, on Sept. 4, an officer tried to pull over a 2024 BMW X5 near Millburn Avenue and Lackawanna Place. A records check had revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Edgewater on Aug. 26, according to the Millburn Police Department.

The driver fled. Millburn officers ended the pursuit for safety reasons.

A New Jersey State Police auto theft task force later tracked and disabled the BMW in Irvington. Two suspects were taken into custody: a 34-year-old Union County resident and a juvenile, Patch reported. The adult driver faces multiple charges, though the specific charges have not been publicly detailed.

Both Patch articles, published Sept. 14, attributed the details to the Millburn Police Department.

The stolen-vehicle recovery echoes priorities Millburn Police Chief Brian Gilfedder outlined at a Township Committee meeting in June. Gilfedder highlighted the department's use of surveillance technology, investigative techniques and interagency cooperation in recovering stolen vehicles and apprehending suspects.

Court dates for both cases have not been announced. Residents with information about either incident can contact the Millburn Police Department at (973) 564-7001.
