Two suspects face arrest warrants for a residential break-in at The Upton Short Hills, and five masked juveniles were charged after an attempted vehicle burglary on Cypress Street, according to Millburn Police reports published July 17 and July 18.

Upton Short Hills break-in

Detective Wichelns concluded a weeks-long investigation into a burglary that occurred Saturday, June 6 at The Upton Short Hills, a luxury apartment complex at 1 Fineran Way. Police said the suspects forced entry through a window.

On Friday, July 10, Det. Wichelns obtained arrest warrants charging two individuals in connection with the break-in. The suspects' names have not been released pending formal charges, according to the department.

Cypress Street vehicle burglary attempt

Separately, Millburn Police officers responded to a Cypress Street residence on Friday, July 3 after a caller reported several males trying to break into a BMW X3 parked in a driveway.

Officers arrived within minutes and found five juvenile males walking nearby wearing masks. Investigators determined all five were involved in the attempted burglary.

Each was taken into custody and charged with juvenile delinquency, attempted burglary of a motor vehicle, and conspiracy to commit burglary of a motor vehicle. Three were released to parents or guardians. Two were lodged at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center pending further proceedings.

Case status and safety advisory

The two cases occurred within a five-week span in Millburn Township. No court dates have been announced for either, and proceedings remain pending.

The Millburn Police Department maintains a standing "Lock It or Lose It" advisory on its website urging residents to lock vehicles and homes during both daytime and nighttime hours, bring key fobs and valuables inside, keep security systems active, and consider placing cameras at the rear of the home.
