The Millburn Police Department will send an officer to your home, walk the property, and point out security weak spots — all free of charge.

The department's Home Security Assessment Program, promoted by the Township of Millburn on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, gives property owners a no-obligation survey of their residence. Participants receive recommendations for improving home security.

The program is open to all Millburn and Short Hills residents on an ongoing basis with no enrollment deadline. The department has not published details online about what the assessment involves or how long it takes. Residents interested in scheduling can contact the Millburn Police Department at (973) 564-7001 to ask questions and set up an appointment. The department is located at 435 Essex St., Millburn.

Mayor Frank Saccomandi endorsed the program during his State of the Township address on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, urging residents to sign up. At that same meeting, Saccomandi reported that crime in Millburn hit its lowest levels since the township began tracking local key performance indicators in 2021.

"In 2025, both car thefts and home burglaries were in the single digits, a record low that was in no small part due to our stellar police department," Saccomandi said during the January address.

The department, led by Police Chief Brian Gilfedder, has continued pushing prevention even as those numbers have dropped. Its "Lock It or Lose It" campaign reminds residents to lock doors and windows during both daytime and nighttime hours and to position security cameras at the back of the home as well as the front.
