Millburn's girls volleyball team beat No. 20 West Essex 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 on Wednesday, Sept. 30, avenging a two-set loss to the Knights three weeks earlier.
The Millers traveled to West Essex and controlled the first set 25-19 before the Knights fought back to take the second 25-23. Millburn won the third set 25-20 to clinch the match.
The victory moved head coach Bill Rentiers' squad to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the Super Essex Conference American Division, according to MaxPreps. Millburn Athletics credited contributions from across the roster in the win.
NJ.com had listed the matchup among its 47 must-watch games statewide for the week, with West Essex carrying the No. 20 ranking entering play.
The result flipped the script from Sept. 9, when the Knights swept Millburn 2-0 at the same venue. Rentiers, who guided the Millers to a third consecutive North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 championship in November 2025, has seen his program navigate an up-and-down start to the 2026 season. The rematch win over a ranked opponent could mark a turning point at the midway mark.
Millburn has since improved to 8-7 after a 2-0 win over Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Up next, the Millers host Livingston on Monday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. in a Super Essex Conference matchup between the two area rivals. Millburn then travels to Mount St. Dominic Academy on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m.
