A home at 2 Cross Gates in Short Hills sold for $3.2 million, the highest residential sale in Essex County for the week of Aug. 24-30.
The 4,633-square-foot house, built in 1936, sold at $691 per square foot, according to NJ.com real estate data. The sale was finalized Aug. 6, with the title recorded during the Aug. 24-30 period.
Short Hills claimed three of the county's 10 priciest sales that week. Livingston placed two homes on the list and Millburn one, giving the three communities six of the top 10 spots.
The No. 2 sale was another Short Hills property: a 4,148-square-foot home at 55 Lakeview Ave. that sold for $2,999,000, or $723 per square foot. The house was built in 1929.
In Livingston, a 4,722-square-foot home at 23 Hadrian Drive sold for $2,550,000, ranking third countywide. Built in 1993, it sold at $540 per square foot.
Short Hills rounded out its showing with a third entry at No. 5: a 3,746-square-foot home at 20 Barnsdale Road that sold for $2,425,000, or $647 per square foot. The house was built in 1930.
A Millburn home at 372 Wyoming Ave. ranked seventh at $1,900,000. The 2,812-square-foot house, built in 1924, sold at $676 per square foot.
Livingston's second entry was a 2,642-square-foot home at 39 Wingate Drive, which sold for $1,450,000 at No. 10. Built in 1969, it sold at $549 per square foot.
Across Essex County, 80 residential sales were recorded for the week, with an average sale price of $856,830 and an average of $388 per square foot. That average price was up from $828,074 the prior week, when 67 sales were recorded. It trailed the $921,717 average during the week of Aug. 10-16, which saw 211 sales.
The $3.2 million top sale marked a jump from the prior week, when an Essex Fells home led the county at $2.275 million. Two weeks earlier, a Short Hills home at 38 Deer Path topped the list at $3.96 million.
