Six streets across Millburn Township are closed or restricted Tuesday, July 14, as part of ongoing summer construction work that has affected many of the same locations for weeks.
Millburn Township posted the closures on its CivicAlerts page Tuesday morning. Five run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Millburn Avenue closure ends an hour earlier, at 3 p.m.:
- 298 Main St. — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Jefferson Ave. at Adams Ave. — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- 249 Millburn Ave. — 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Essex St. at Holmes St. — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- South Terrace at Twin Oak Rd. — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- 85 Woodland Rd. — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The township is urging drivers to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time during the closure windows.
Part of a weeks-long pattern
Tuesday's list is not a one-off. Township alerts posted on X by the official @millburntwp account show that Jefferson Avenue at Adams Avenue, 249 Millburn Ave., Essex Street at Holmes Street, South Terrace at Twin Oak Road, and 85 Woodland Road have all appeared in closure notices on multiple days this month, including July 7 and July 10. The recurring closures point to a sustained construction program, though the township has not publicly identified the specific type of work — whether utility, paving, or other infrastructure — at any of the six sites.
What drivers should know
The township notes that when a specific time is not listed for a closure, work can generally run between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting. The 298 Main St. closure is new to this week's rotation and sits along a main downtown corridor, so drivers heading through the area should expect delays.
