Campers at the West Essex YMCA's Super Summer Day Camp in Livingston are learning to swing a club for the first time this summer, thanks to a new sponsorship from a local chiropractic and golf training facility.

All Square Performance Chiropractic & Golf, located at 30 Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Livingston, is funding a game-based golf curriculum, staff training, and modified equipment sized for young learners at the camp. It's a first for the branch.

"Some of my earliest experiences with organized sports happened through Y programs, and those experiences sparked a lifelong love of athletics," Andrew Spehar, clinic director and owner of All Square PCG, said in a statement released Thursday, July 23. "... By sponsoring youth golf instruction at camp, we're giving more children the opportunity to discover a sport we love."

Spehar, a chiropractor with more than 10 years of experience, holds a certification from the Titleist Performance Institute, which studies how the body functions in relation to the golf swing. His Livingston facility combines chiropractic treatment with three Trackman simulation bays for golf training.

The program emphasizes movement, teamwork, and skill development through play rather than formal instruction. Campers use modified equipment so families don't need to buy clubs or gear to participate.

According to the YMCA, the sponsorship removes cost and access barriers that keep many families from trying the sport. Cheryl Tuturice, district executive director at the West Essex YMCA, said the partnership gives campers a chance to experience golf "that promotes physical activity and personal growth while having fun alongside their peers."

The West Essex YMCA is also in an expansion phase. The branch is hosting a job fair for a new facility on Wednesday, July 29, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in Livingston.
