Rep. Analilia Mejia and Republican challenger Joe Hathaway will debate at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, giving Millburn and Livingston voters a look at their NJ-11 congressional candidates before Election Day.

The forum, first reported by Patch, will be held at 2 Convent Road. Independent candidate Alan Bond is also on the November ballot for the seat formerly held by Gov. Mikie Sherrill. The Patch report listed Mejia and Hathaway as debate participants but did not confirm whether Bond would appear on stage.

The League of Women Voters of the Morris Area is hosting the event, which runs until 8:30 p.m., according to the group's event page. Registration is required to attend in person. The forum will also be livestreamed on the League of Women Voters Morris Area YouTube channel. Spanish translation will be available.

Residents can submit questions for the candidates through a Google form. The deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 21. For questions about the event, the League lists Sarah Rubinstein as the contact at [email protected].

The debate comes two days after early voting begins statewide on Saturday, Oct. 24. Early voting runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, with Election Day set for Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to NorthJersey.com.

The NJ-11 race is a rematch. Mejia won a special election earlier this year to fill the remainder of Sherrill's unexpired U.S. House term, defeating both Hathaway and Bond. A full two-year term is at stake in November.

Hathaway told Patch he is pushing ahead for the fall race, saying his campaign is focused on "bringing people together" around "common sense, practical leadership that puts families first, not a political party, not a president, and certainly not a squad."

Bond told Patch he remains active in the campaign, though much of his time in recent months has been devoted to caring for his late wife, Sheila A. Bond, a plastic surgeon who died of breast cancer.

The 11th District covers Millburn, Livingston, Maplewood, South Orange, Montclair and other communities across Essex, Morris and Passaic counties. Rallies and demonstrations are not permitted inside the venue or designated event areas, according to the event rules.

The question submission deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 21.
