Millburn senior Mack Rodriguez was named one of NJ.com's Super Football Conference (SFC) Defensive Players of the Week for Week 6 after scoring two defensive touchdowns against Belleville.

Rodriguez, a defensive back, returned a 33-yard interception for a touchdown and brought back a blocked punt 27 yards for another score in the Millers' 30-20 win at Belleville on Oct. 8. He also recorded two tackles. His two touchdowns accounted for half of Millburn's four scores in the game.

NJ.com selected 10 SFC defenders for the weekly honor. Rodriguez was the only Millburn player on the list, which also included players from Paramus Catholic, Morris Knolls, Dover, Irvington, Cedar Grove, Boonton, Indian Hills, Wallkill Valley and Newton.

Rodriguez's selection follows a four-game winning streak for the Millers. Millburn sits at 5-2 overall and 4-1 in league play, putting them in first place in the SFC Ivy Gold division, according to MaxPreps.

The streak started with a 7-0 shutout at Bergenfield on Sept. 19. Millburn then beat Paterson Kennedy 34-6 on Sept. 25 and Bergen Tech 37-6 on Oct. 1 before the Belleville victory. Through seven games, the Millers have outscored opponents 146-77.

Senior captain Owen Skinner outlined the team's ambitions after the Sept. 25 Kennedy win. In a Sept. 30 article in The Miller student newspaper, Skinner said, "Our goals for the rest of the season are to finish first in our division and then make the playoffs and hopefully go to the Ivy Championship."

Four wins later, the Millers hold that division lead heading into the second half of the schedule.

Millburn travels to North Bergen on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m.
