Downtown Millburn is getting a new coffee shop weeks after Starbucks closed its doors for good.
Tazza Organic Coffee Roasters plans to open at 353 Millburn Ave. in November, according to the business's website. The independent roaster specializes in organic beans sold by the cup and by the bag, with coffee roasted in small batches in Millburn using what the company calls a fluid roasting process.
Tazza's lineup includes beans sourced from Nicaragua, Uganda, Ethiopia, Colombia, Sumatra and Mexico, along with a decaf option. The shop will also carry Balthazar baked goods delivered daily, according to its website.
The opening comes as Starbucks' departure in late September left a gap in the downtown coffee scene. The Millburn location at 343 Millburn Ave. was among roughly 250 North American stores the chain closed as part of a restructuring, Patch reported. Starbucks said the closures targeted locations that were not meeting financial or customer-experience expectations.
The closures represented about 1 percent of Starbucks' more than 18,000 North American locations.
Tazza is not the only new food-and-beverage business headed downtown. Peel'd, a juice bar focused on smoothies and cold-pressed juices, is listed at 346 Millburn Ave. on the Explore Millburn & Short Hills website. Peel'd's own website, signed by owners Steve and Tes, describes the business as "almost here" and promises functional smoothies and superfoods.
Peel'd's opening date has not been announced.
Millburn Media, a local Instagram account, posted that Tazza's bean offerings include a Tenacious Bean Espresso Blend with flavor profiles spanning chocolate, vanilla, caramel, peach, citrus and spice.
Tazza has not announced a specific November opening date.
