Capt. Jeffery Wanamaker spent five years as a volunteer firefighter before turning it into a career — 31 more years full-time, adding up to 36 years of service to Millburn. At the end of June, he officially retired.

A career built on showing up for everything

Millburn Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 32 announced his retirement, describing Wanamaker as someone "involved in just about everything" — from his work with the Local FMBA and the Welfare Association to countless behind-the-scenes efforts that kept the department running and supported the community.

The FMBA said his dedication to the department and to Millburn "never went unnoticed."

"Thanks for everything you've done over the years and for leaving the place better than you found it," the union wrote in its announcement.

After 36 years, that's about as fitting a send-off as they come.
